Brownfield Redevelopment > Former Brewery
This
site consisted of a large abandoned and dilapidated 10
acre brewery complex along a major entry corridor to
downtown Fort Wayne. SES Environmental assisted the Fort
Wayne Redevelopment Commission with this project by
completing a Phase I ESA, and Phase II Investigation.
The Phase I ESA revealed several on-site concerns
related to former underground fuel storage tank areas,
and machinery operation areas. Several off-site concerns
related to surrounding industries were also identified.
Subsequent Phase II investigation ruled out off-site
concerns, and successfully delineated the full nature
and extent of fuel oil contaminated soil. This
information was then used to evaluate potential costs
associated with remediation. Based on this evaluation,
the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission moved forward
with condemnation of the facility.
The facility was sold to Current Mechanical, a
commercial and industrial mechanical contracting firm.
Current Mechanical has redeveloped the old brewery into
a warehouse, fabrication shop, office space and retail
parts store.
